Histology & Hematology Reagents

Histology and hematology reagents are essential tools for accurate analysis of cell cultures, including those sourced from the blood. Each reagent has a specific purpose: stains allow for clearer intracellular distinction, slides allow clear visualization under the microscope and fixative solutions keep samples in place.

Histology

Histology research involves the preparation, preservation, and processing of tissues, including cut & stain sections. Histopathology concentrates on diseased tissue.

Light Microscopy is frequently used in conjunction with dissection tools and coverslips for all the above processes. However certain reagents and equipment are also required for specific examinations:

• Dyes or stains for better visualization of cell and tissue morphology, such as:

o Hematoxylin-eosin

o Periodic Acid-Schiff

o Van Gieson

• Histochemical, immunological and molecular methods/equipment are required for researching functional characteristics

• Electron microscopy for ultrastructure studies

• Fixative Solutions for cell and tissue fixation

Hematology

Hematology reagents and equipment specialize in identifying anomalies of the blood such as anemia, coagulation defects, leukemia (oncology), thrombosis. Studies focus on one or more components of the blood, such as blood cells, proteins, hemoglobin, platelets, spleen, bone marrow and blood vessels. There is a range of dyes, counting chambers and hematocrit readers designed only for hematological analysis. Popular hematology stains include:

• Giemsa / May-Grunwald Stain

• Wright’s Stain

• Leishman’s Stain

• Reticount Stain
