Centrifuge Tube Application
Centrifuges can separate components of a heterogeneous mixture in a process called centrifugation. Spinning the mixture in a centrifuge generates a high centrifugal force which separates the particles according to their size and density. Denser particles sediment at the bottom of the centrifuge tube forming a pellet, which is then further processed or analyzed.
Centrifugation has various applications, including purifying and precipitating nucleic acids, sample storage, harvesting cells, and concentrating bacteria for DNA isolation. Centrifugal tubes hold the sample to be centrifuged and separated.
