Library Preparation Kits on ZAGENO

Library Preparation is the first essential step for sequencing experiments. While cDNA library construction is still used for transcriptome studies, genomic library preparation is the basis for next generation sequencing techniques such as whole genome sequencing or RNA-seq. Sometimes the sequencing kits include the cDNA library preparation step, so don’t forget to check if this is the case for your sequencing kit of choice!

Sequencing kits for different templates

Which kit you choose will largely depend on your starting material. Here at ZAGENO you can, amongst others, find:

  • cDNA library construction kits

  • Total RNA kits

See our Library Preparation Troubleshoot for solutions to any problems you may have.

Next generation sequencing

For Next Generation Sequencing there are many parameters to consider when creating a library. Once you know what kind of library you need, consider the size of the fragments. Short fragments can be amplified more efficiently while longer ones create better, more diffused sequencing clusters. The length of fragments might also be dictated by the nature of the template, the genome of interest, and the characteristics of its transcript.

There are also a few variables to think about for fragment creation. Physical DNA shearing methods such as sonication generally create fewer artifacts than enzymatic ones. But the latter are typically faster, reducing the overall sample preparation time.

RNA sequencing

For RNA sequencing applications, there are dedicated cDNA library kits available. Some kits maintain the original orientation of RNA in the cDNA copies, which is required for some applications. Others include only cDNA, avoiding DNA amplification from other RNA species, or to solve complex secondary RNA structures. Thus each kit can be tailored to fit your experimental parameters.

Compare Genomic DNA Library Kits

With our compare function, you can avoid all the time and energy wasted sifting through multiple web pages from different suppliers. At ZAGENO you can clearly see kits side-by-side, with the relevant attributes for each kit neatly in line for easy selection of the best product for you.

Click on the comparison below for a clearer view!

For example, this comparison shows:

  • that the NEXTERA DNA LIBRARY PREPARATION Kit from Illumina requires no more than 90 minutes.
  • that the QIASEQ FX DNA LIBRARY Kit from Qiagen is the cheapest per reaction.
  • that the PICO METHYL-SEQ™ LIBRARY PREP Kit requires as little as 10 pg of starting sample.

This comparison clearly exemplifies how every kit has strengths and weaknesses. Depending on what features you require for your experiment, these details should enable you to make an informed decision on the right kit for you.

The ZAGENO comparison does not highlight one kit to be better than the other, as the kit of choice may vary between researchers - depending on each individual's preferred attributes. The best kit is the one that meets your needs - ZAGENO allows you to make an informed decision with minimum effort.

Check out our How It Works page for a guide to using the comparison function.
